WVO as a Fuel
There seems to be a lot of talk these days of converting Diesel powered vehicles to run on Waste Vegetable Oil. This is an interesting concept, as the engine is being run on a minimally processed feedstock. I personally have run my 1990 F-350 on used peanut and canola oil.
I don't seeing it catching on in the mainstream alternative fuels market. It may catch on in the industrial sector, seeing as there are already dual fuel (One light fuel, one heavy fuel) applications like power generation and heat generation. The WVO conversion is a cute concept, one that involves multiple heated fuel tanks and some flipping of switches, but consumers are very lazy people. They don't want to run around collecting old fat from resturants and tweaking buttons while they're driving. They want their fuel ready to burn at a user-friendly gas station. In the long run, fuels like Biodiesel and SunDiesel are going to be the quickest, if not only, alternative fuels to catch on in the next few years.
