Welcome to "The Diesel Corner" with The DZA
Time for a science lesson. The Two stroke diesel engine is something most overlooked by the diesel community. To put it simply, the intake is moved from the cylinder head to the middle of the cylinder. There is no valve associated with the intake side, only the exhaust. They are simpler, and have no of the downsides that a gas two stroke has. The only problem with them is their increased level of pollutants. But with advancements such as high pressure common rail injection and electronics, this problem can be reduced. They run smoother and produce more power per crankshaft revolution than a four stroke diesel of the same size. Perhaps we'll see them more in the future.
