There's Nothing Like The Smell of Leather And Diesel
Let's take a look to one of the many hidden treasures in the automotive and energy world:

The Mercedes Benz Diesel

Mercedes Benz introduced the world's first diesel powered car, the 260D, in 1936. Since then, Mercedes has produced an impeccable line of cars all in the diesel industry. When they introduced their 5 cylinder Indirect Injection Turbodiesel engine in the 1976 300D, the world was amazed at the reliability, economy, and overall pimp-ness of a diesel Benz. They are very quirky cars. They sound like no other diesel you have ever heard, they're built to german military specifications, and they get damn good gas mileage moving a 2.5 ton car.

Back in the middle of world war II, Mercedes Benz was under many production contracts from the german government. It had lots of free Jewish labor, so production was very high. Mercedes Benz cars were being produced in the same factory as the Mercedes Benz tanks, and Mercedes Benz howitzers, and so on. The cars were built extremely heavy and everything was overengineered. The design stuck all the way up the early 90's. I'd say the heyday of the car was probably the early 80's.

My 1984 300D, for example:

Currently has 288929 miles on it. Its running like new today.

If you want to be more classy, they also put the diesels in S Class cars.

P.I.M.P!!!!

These are great cars. They will last probaby asl long as you will if they are properly mainteined and you don't drive it into or off of something. They are cool, economical, and can run on alternative fuels with zero modifications.
